Flat-Tows
When a ship's plant is shut down, it becomes a big barge. Moving them is done entirely with tugs. One tug is made up on the quarter to provide steering a propulsion. One or two more tugs are on either bow for maneuvering and additional power.
Flat tows have their own unique set of challenges. With the offset propulsion and limited horsepower, anticipating how the tow will respond is key to staying out of trouble.
