Maritime consulting for the film industry presents it's own set of unique challanges. For the making of Down Periscope, we had to create the illusion of a WWII sub underway, on it's own power.  This is a sub without propellers.  Any time in the film that you see the PAMPANITO underway, what you don't see is the tug DELAWARE towing it astern with the bridle and towline submerged.  I had to remain hidden up the mast or behind the sail as pilot/towing master, giving orders to one or two tugboats to safely undock, navigate the Bay , ands safely dock again. All the while, maintaining control of the this WWII submarine, the precious flagship of the San Francisco Maritime Museum. It was the first time in 50 years that this sub went under the Golden Gate Bridge.
